Sailing at its best, on beautiful Lake Couchiching in Orillia, Ontario

Sailing School at CSC

The CSC sailing school offers programs for Youth (ages 8-15 years) and Adults (ages 16 years plus).

You do not need to be a member to enrol in our sailing school

You will not only learn to sail with confidence but will also engage in enjoyable activities within a safe environment

Sailing School Staff

Our instructors are all fully qualified CanSail Instructors. They have undergone extensive training as sailors and obtained national instructor certification through Sail Canada. This certification encompasses first aid, water safety, teaching, lesson planning, leadership, and, most importantly, sailing.

Sailing School Programming

Following Sail Canada's CANSail programming, our instructors strive to maximize time on the water, focusing on practical sailing, sailing theory, rigging, and boat maintenance. What sets our instructors apart is their hands-on approach to teaching, emphasizing demonstration over verbal instruction and testing. Enrolling in our programs will allow one to work toward a CANSail level through the Ontario Sailing Association – note: a minimum of 24hrs of sailing instruction and in-boat experience is needed to potentially achieve a CANSail level.

Sailing School Boats

The school possesses a fleet of beginner-friendly sailboats with high safety standards, accompanied by motorized coach boats to maximize sailors' safety.

Youth sailors will use our fleet of RS Zests. Zests are a durable, polyethylene sailing dinghy designed as a versatile "program boat" for beginners. The Zests offer stability, easy handling, and features like a pivoting centreboard and simple rigging for fun, low-hassle sailing.

Adult sailors will use our fleet of CL16s. CL16s are a popular 16-foot fiberglass sailing dinghy, designed for both day sailing and racing, known for their stability, ease of sailing, and spacious cockpit for up to four people.
